  • Condition: It is in fair to good antique condition. The surface is glossy and the color is good. The glaze has the typical crazing. There is a small chip at the center bottom edge of the rim (photo 12). There are scattered few knife cuts and utensil marks (photo 11 shows a few examples), and a few very faint areas of discoloration. The bottom shows age appropriate shelf wear along the perimeter of the foot. The pictures are the best indicator as to condition, please use the zoom feature and check them out.

    The item up for bids is a large and spectacular antique English transferware serving platter. It is in the 'Syrian' pattern by George & Ralph Leese, and it dates to 1841-1842. It is a dark brown transfer in the Romantic / Oriental school. The central image shows a woman on a camel with a prince escort. There are palm trees, exotic architecture, and a harbor with sail boats in the distance. The elaborate border features alternating panels of a seaside villa with a sailboat and bouquets of flowers. It is signed on the back with a G.&R. Leese, Syrian, kneeling camel backstamp, and there is an impressed number 18. It's a gorgeous antique Staffordshire platter in an impressive size, have some fun and bid!
