c.1815 -  ANTIQUE TOM CRIB / TOM MOLINEAUX STAFFORDSHIRE BOXING FIGURE
Tom Cribb
(8 July 1781 – 11 May 1848) was a world champion
English
bare-knuckle boxer
of the 19th century.
[2]
Cribb was born near
Bristol
but moved to London before starting professional fighting. He undertook a series of fights between 1805 and 1812 when he retired. In 1811 he fought Tom Molineaux a black former slave from the United States. Tom Cribb was white and for some reason when these figurines were made back in the early 19th century the wrong names were put on the bases.
"Tom Molineaux" should be on the base of this figurine.
This boxing figure stands about 8 inches tall and the base measures 3 1/8 inches in diameter.
