Early Childs Transferware Pearlware Toy Platter
SEAWEED FLORAL FIBRE
CHINTZ
Charles Meigh Staffordshire England c 1840
This is a fine miniature transfer printed plat
ter or serving tray
circa 1840, originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. Transfer printed in a rich
sepia brown
with pearlware glaze, the
eight
-sided paneled plat
ter
measures
5-1/8
in
ches long
with a flat bottom and no foot rim, indicating a quite early period of manufacture. Well potted, to the standards usually only found in full-size Staffordshire table wares, the tiny plate is decorated with a quirky mixture of seaweed fibre and primrose flowers.
The
tray
is unmarked and the exact pattern name is unknown. Based on the form and style of the blank,
it is atrributed
to Charles Meigh, a well known pottery maker in the Staffordshire region of England from the period of 1820-1860.
The plate has
no
chips cracks or repairs.
Great condition with only minor t
ypical firing imperfections, glaze pooling, transfer smudges, original to the making and typical of the period. A great little toy dinner plat
ter
to display in the finest ceramic collection or dollhouse! The tiny piece is a doll sized work of art.
