    Description

Founded in 1780, the Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky was established in 1799, thus creating the first law and medical school in the west.
The Civil War turned Old Morrison and the medical building (which had closed in 1859) into hospitals for Union troops.
From 1965-1908 the school went by the nomenclature Kentucky University.
This plate shows the Haupt Humanities Center, which has now been renovated and renamed to the Carpenter Academic Center.
This plate measures just over 9" and has a decorative border comprised of various seashells. It has both printed and imprinted makers marks on the back.
