    Description

    Flow Blue Childs Pearlware
    Miniature Dinner Set Plate
    ASIATIC BIRDS with FRUIT
    Charles Meigh Staffordshire England 1850
This is a very scarce miniature flow blue plate dated 1850, originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. The tiny piece measures just 3-5/8 inches across with a flat rimless base and panel rim. Brilliant flow blue transfer printed decoration finished with pearlware glaze, extremely well potted, to the standards usually only seen in full-size Staffordshire table wares. Decorated with a Romantic Chinoiserie image of an Asiatic pheasant or oriental bird perched on a tree branch with its wings outspread, bordered with contrasting bamboo edge.
The plate is unmarked. The pattern, sometimes called Asiatic Pheasant, is documented by Doris Lechler as pattern #223. The pattern is also discussed on page 113 in Milbourn's
Understanding Miniature British Pottery & Porcelain
    .
It is in great condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Stilt marks, transfer wrinkle, dot of kiln flek, border transfer skip and other typical manufacturing imperfections, original to the making, consistent with age. A delicate little piece to display in the finest dollhouse, a pocket size work of art! Children's soft paste transferware of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after. Offered as described and as shown.
We have also listed other early child's colorful transferware this week -- mix and match for a lovely collection. We are always happy to combine postage on multiple purchases.
