There is a puzzle from 1795 of Franklin's "Lessons for the Young and Old"; illustrated in Noel Riley's "Gifts for Good Children" book, page 309. The transfer of spilt milk on the puzzle reads around it: "He who saves not as he gets may keep his nose all his life to the grindstone and die not worth a groat./ A fat kitchen makes a lean will./ would you be rich: think of saving. The other side of the coffeepot has a transfer of has a mother and two children picking wheat from the ground. This is called gleaning wheat; gleaning is an ancient tradition where it was common for the poor to be given access to the grain fields after the harvest, so they could collect the spikelets left on the ground by the harvesters.
