This is
a
toy transfer
printed
ceramic
bowl
, originally part of a complete miniature childrens or dolls dinner service. The
bowl
measure
s
4-3/8
inches
in diameter
with a deep center well
, transfer printed in
mulberry or
d
ark
blue against a creamy earthenware blank. The
bowl
resembles the transferware made in the Staffordshire region of England in the early to mid 19th century, but instead
was
made by Gien, one of the faienceries in the Luneville region of France. The underside is marked "Porcelaine Opaque de Gien" around a crown and castle.
The plate
is decorated with a winter scene of children sledding and skating in the snow, imagery of
childrens amusm
e
nts during
winter sports
season.The plate is titled ‘L
e Traineau
’ (
Sled
).
The plate is finished
with an oak leaf printed border. The
plate
is in great condition with no chips, cracks stains or repairs. Overall fine glaze crazing original to the making consistent with age and typical of the period. Th
e
plate was impeccably potted and the transfers were printed with great attention to detail.
