    Description

A rare and unusual pair of English Staffordshire figural salt and pepper shakers. They are of the two 19th century British political figures William Gladstone and Benjamin Disraeli who were of opposing parties and had great dislike for each other. William Gladstone is potted with his customary bow tie and carrying his ever present satchel bag. Benjamin Disraeli is potted with his customary goatee beard. His is also dressed as a jester or Mr. Punch with points on his coat collar and an odd hat. The satire might be expressed in his dress. The figures measure 4 1/8" in height. The faces are very nicely painted and the bodies picked out in gold. They are in excellent original condition with no chips or cracks, just normal wear to the gold. Each has a small painted mark on their base. In researching these we have seen another pair sold several years ago as 19th c Staffordshire and have also been told they may be of continental manufacture. These and the other Staffordshire items we have listed are from an old Staffordshire collection.
I am able to ship to the continental USA only.
