    Description

Childs Rainbow Spatterware 2pc Tea Set
    Staffordshire England 1830
This is rare miniature spatterware or sponge ware hand decorated tea
    set
circa 1830-1840. The decoration is applied in two color red and pink rainbow pattern, hand sponge work.
Made for childs play and display in
a child’s dollhouse. The London shaped handleless cup stands 1-3/4 inches tall and the saucer measures 4-1/2 inches across.
    The
    set
    is unmarked
except for a tally mark on the bottom of the saucer
. It is of English origin, p
    roba
    bly the Staffordshire region.
    The
    set
    is in overall great condition
with a superficial interior hairline in the well of the saucer, not hard to see except on close examination.  No other chips cracks or repairs.
Not fine pottery and not intended to be -- made for childs play and probably considered disposable.
Minor firing imperfections original to the making and glaze crazing consistent with age. Rim wear. The sponged and spatter decoration is pastel,  clear and crisp with some skips and irregularities adding to the authenticity and charm. A great naïve motif, a good earthy example.
Sold as is, as shown and as described.
